The last time I sampled a Wiko phone I was impressed by its form factor and functionality. Wiko Slide 2 has continued to be popular on this website and judging from the sales here in Kenya, the brand has a sizable chunk of fans already. These fans, and even people who have never sampled this brand– designed in France– will be pleased with the new Wiko Fever Special Edition which was unveiled in Barcelona during last month’s Mobile World Congress.
Wiko Fever Special Edition features a 5.2- inch IPS FHD display with a pixel density of 424 ppi. This is a brilliant display that is much better that what I handled last. But, from my experience with the inexpensive Wiko line of smartphones, there is always a neat feature present to give it an extra edge. On the display, the positive anomaly is an adaptive technology that adjusts contrast and color automatically depending on the setting. According to reports, the phone also has a glowing florescent layer that is magnificent to behold in the dark.
Metal frames are in vogue now for budget phones and this is the same material on the frame of the Fever Special. For the bezels and the back cover, the material is made of plastic. However, we will have to see which type of covers will be available on the models that make it to Kenya. There are various color options for the back cover, which gives the buyer different options to choose from. You can even pick more than one back cover to change the looks of the phone.
It has good cameras, though they are the kind you would expect for budget phones today. The rear sensor is a 13 megapixel unit while the selfie camera has a 5 megapixel sensor and an accompanying flash. If you had a checklist in front of you, you should tick the box for camera because on paper and from my experience, this should provide a good photography gadget.
The processor is a mid- range system that is bound to provide a great multitasking experience as well as fluid operation. An octa- core Mediatek CPU clocked at 1.3 GHz is at the heart of things in terms of driving the processes. 3 GB of RAM is reserved for multitasking, one of the best aspects of this phone.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system is the choice for software with Wiko 3.0 User Interface. It has a 4G antenna, optional dual- SIM as well as Wi-Fi. A 3000 mAh battery is part of the package. There are phones out there in the same category that feature more capacious batteries, but 3000 mAh is still substantial and will provide (at the very least) a whole day’s worth of use before needing to be refilled.
