Just like Huawei GR5, the GR3 is a beautiful smartphone. The GR3 has several specifications in common with the more expensive and swankier ‘sibling.’
It too features a metal and glass unibody design. With a load measuring 135 grams, it is very light and can therefore be tucked away in the pockets without too much consciousness of weight.
Dimensions of 143.5 x 71 x 7.6 mm mean that Huawei GR3 is much smaller in general compared to its ‘sibling’ the GR5. Indeed, it features a 5- inch display that has a resolution of 720p. Just above the 5-inch display, you will find the different sensors among other accessories. The elongated gauze is the ear piece, with a 5 megapixel selfie camera and an LED notification light located to its left. To the right of the ear piece gauze are the proximity and ambient light sensors.
The navigation keys are located at the bottom section of the device, although they are all placed on the display, leaving the large bezel at the bottom to only carry the physical Huawei brand name. On the right side you will find the usual volume rocker and power button. On the other hand, the left side is where the SIM slots are located with the SIM 2 slot also doubling up as the microSD slot.
On the bottom side, you will find a microphone as well as a micro USB 2.0 port for charging and file transfer. As has become the norm of late, the phone will feature other connectivity options including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and 4G LTE.
For your music and entertainment, you can simply plug an earphone into the device’s 3.5 mm headphone jack on the top side.
At the back, you will notice a small dot beside the 13 megapixel camera lens and its LED flash. This small dot, is related to the other one seen at the bottom side since it is a noise- cancellation microphone. The Huawei brand insignia is also found at the back while the loudspeaker is found at the bottom of the phone. Remember, there is no fingerprint reader on this device.
Android is the preferred OS for Huawei, and in this case Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with EMUI 3.1 is used to run the software side of things. There is no app drawer, so you will have to scroll left and right from the home window to access your installed apps across the other secondary windows.
The chipset used for the processor is MediaTek MT6753T which requires eight cores of the Cortex A53 design to give the level of smooth performance you will experience to see on this phone. Managing multiple tasks will be a lot easier courtesy of a whole 2 GB of RAM that has been set apart from the 16 GB internal storage space.
The camera works very well on this phone partly due to the simple interface and also the processor. Users are able to snap quick successive shots due to the low lag between taking shots. However, we have seen other smartphone software work even faster. Using the software, you can adjust the settings to your desired levels. This primary camera is able to record time lapse videos which is a cool feature to have fun with.
Finally, this phone only manages a 2200 mAh battery which should last you an average of a full day before you plug it in again.
