Apple does by far the best product launches following a script of hyping that was perfected by its legendary co- founder Steve Jobs. Apple’s current CEO, Tim Cook has continued the legacy of huge product launches but the most important part of Apple which is the knack for groundbreaking innovations seems to grow ever stronger. Therefore the elaborate product hypes are never just a marketing gimmick, they are a suitable launching pad for enviable products that go on to shape whole industries. Just like the first iPad and the ones that came after, the iPad Pro 9.7 at the time of its launch is the best iPad and by extension the best tablet in the market today.
All good things come at a premium and that statement rings true for the iPad Pro 7. The new iPad bears a lot of physical resemblance to iPad Air 2 but far outstrips the older model with a more brilliant display and better processor. Otherwise, the weight of 437 grams remains the same and so are the dimensions of 240 x 169.5 x 6.1 mm. In practical use, the slate is light and thin in a way that makes it extremely comfortable to work with.
The display has a resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixels (264 pixels per inch) and it has qualities that prevent it from attracting scratches and fingerprints. Besides the physical qualities, this display is impressive for designing things and viewing movies. In fact, when drumming up the iPad Pro’s features, Apple decided to lead with the display. The statement from Apple read: “…at just under one pound it features a new pro Retina® display with greater brightness, wider color gamut, lower reflectivity, Night Shift™ mode and introduces new True Tone® display technology to dynamically adjust white balance.”
The True Tone display technology is what Apple is more proud of because it works together with a sensor on top of the display that automatically adjusts the color temperature to fit that of the immediate environment. What this achieves is that it allows the user to view the display in the best settings without causing a strain to the eyes despite the ambient lighting conditions. This goes beyond just increasing and reducing the amount of light being produced from the screen as is the case with how most manufacturers deal with the problem. The display reflects less light and together with the True Tone technology, it allows you to maintain great viewing outside in the sun or while inside a dimply lit hotel lobby.
Since the Cupertino brand is aiming to replace laptop from worktables, the iPad Pro can be purchased as a kit that includes a smart keyboard and Apple Pencil Stylus. This keyboard is handy for typing and is very portable since it folds against the slate.
The pencil is great for drawing and writing because of enhanced accuracy. Although the keyboard and the stylus are sold separately as accessories, they are a necessary package if you are to enjoy this new iPad fully. However, third party manufacturers like Logitech have better keyboard designs that work with Apple slates.
Apple runs iOS 9.3 as the default software on here, which is the greatest hurdle if the company is ever going to make a tablet that eventually replaces laptops. Were it OS X that was chosen to offer a full version of apple’s desktop software, then this particular slate would have been the game changer in terms of an actual next- generation Apple portable computer.
Don’t get me wrong though. The software works like a dream, especially with the snappy A9X processor and 2 GB of RAM. However, with the operating system specifically built for phones and slates, the apps you will get in Apple store are stripped down versions of the ones you would get on a MacBook. The base model comes with 32 GB of internal storage space while the ‘big daddy’ comes with 256 GB of storage space. Mindfulness is needed here in choosing particularly because there is no slot for expanding this space further. Also worth considering is whether you would rather go for the Wi-Fi or the LTE- ready version.
A 12 megapixel iSight camera protrudes from the upper left corner at the back of the Pro 9.7 with a metal ring around it and a dual- tone flash right below it. The camera is great for photography and videography, especially given that it can record 4K video.
