Apple iPad mini 4 as the name suggests is 2015’s most decorated small-sized tablet. Its launch has reinforced the myth of Apple’s tech superiority in this industry. The mini tablet has some incredible specs that decisively outshine those of its immediate predecessor, iPad mini 3.
Although it is not a match to the recently launched full sized Apple iPad Pro, it is easily the best small- sized tablet in the market today if you consider all the value that is in sore. Although the American tech firm may have slowed down innovation of its smaller tablets with the creation of iPad mini 3, most will agree that the new slate is the undisputed next generation slate in its category.
Its retina display is the best indication that this is a high- end device. Featuring a screen resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixels and a pixel density of 324 ppi, the LED-backlit IPS LCD matches the one on iPad mini 3. It has an oleophobic layer on the surface which itself is scratch resistant.
The main challenger of the iPad mini 4 is Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 also launched just recently in September. However, what Samsung has on offer is not entirely as refined and it actually shows in the price difference of the two commodities. iPad mini 4 will cost you up to sh. 15, 000 more than the Galaxy Tab S2. However, the 16GB base model of iPad mini 4 will differ by just about sh. 3, 000 from the 32GB base model from Samsung.
The price difference will buy you better graphics, better execution of tasks, voice command and battery life. You cannot compare the software because they are from different platforms, but I particularly prefer the integration of both software and hardware that Apple achieves which results in a more rounded product.
This mini iPad runs on iOS 9 which is upgradable to iOS 9.2 as it has the hardware to match. We are talking about a 1.5 GHz dual-core Apple A8 processor that is paired with a robust PowerVR GX6450 graphics processor. 2GB of RAM is given for storing tasks.
A few things to note while we compare with Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 is that the later will afford you greater RAM of 3GB and a seemingly more powerful octa- core 1.9 GHz processor. However, there is no way to compare the two in terms of the specs on paper because of the unique architecture of the processors which are manufactured by totally different chip makers. Comparing the performance on different operating systems which run on diametrically different platforms is an impossible task in itself, but on practical usage the solution offered by Apple just feels more in charge, more capable and more indefatigable.
Since there is no expandable slot on the iPad mini 4, it is more practical to go for the 128GB model as opposed to the 16GB or 32GB models. This is one of the down sides of having such a tightly knit unibody as opposed to the Tab S2 which carries with it an expansion slot for the 32GB and 64GB models.
Of course you get to choose between the Wi-Fi version or the GSM version. Other special specs include the fingerprint reader on the start button and Siri natural language commands and dictation.
Reading this article on the iPad mini 4 just feels so natural even when you hold it with one hand. The 299 gram weight is distributed evenly around the aluminum chassis and the svelte nature of the 6.1 mm depth makes it feel just right between the fingers.
