Samsung NX1000 is a Compact System Camera that uses interchangeable lenses in capturing great still photos and movies.
It achieves stunning results courtesy of a 20.3 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor that can capture images at up to 8 frames per second and 1080p FHD video.
This entry level camera comes with a plastic body that feels solid and contains a grip on the right hand side for holding the camera while preparing to snap your images. A textured thumb rest is located on the opposite side of the grip. It has a metal lens- mount for attaching different kinds of lenses at the front and it has a mount on the bottom side for connecting onto a tripod for steading your shots.
Although the images have good color and are well contrasted, the camera still shoots raw files which you can adjust during editing.
Owing to a remarkable ISO rating of 1600, you can snap some decent pictures even in lowly lit environments. You can still shoot at ISO 3200, ISO 6400 and ISO 12, 800 but the former two produce so much noise that the erosion of quality really sticks out. There is no flash provided but instead there is the hot shoe that you can use to attach a flash accessory if the situation calls for it. If you purchase the bundle, a SEF-15A accessory will be part of it for use as a flash for lighting.
Although there is no electronic viewfinder onboard, the 3- inch 921,000-dot LCD screen that is available at the back is adequate enough and offers great display even under the brightness of the sun.
Samsung was very thoughtful in including wireless networking through the use of Wi-Fi which you can use to transfer pictures to another device and even uploading them to social media platforms.
The camera has a physical mode dial and controls for the self timer, autofocus mode, drive mode and exposure compensation. It also comes with iFunction lens technology that enables the user to make adjustments to the manual settings via a button on the lens barrel. The settings include shutter speed, white balance and ISO.
Selecting the lens priority mode on the NX1000 enables the camera to automatically recognize the kind of lens that is attached to the camera which brings up the various specific modes that the lenses are attuned to.
If you are more inclined to use it the traditional way as a point- and- shoot device, the NX1000 has the Smart Auto mode that automatically selects the appropriate settings for the scene you are focusing on and thereafter you only click the shutter- release button.
At the bottom of the camera grip is a memory card slot and a battery compartment. The memory card slot takes different kind of storage devices including SD, SDHC and SDXC cards. You will need a large capacity memory card in order to shoot RAW shots since each is approximately 40MB in size. It also takes about 6 seconds between shots when you shoot RAW files since it takes time to copy them on the memory.
The rechargeable battery inside is a 1,030 mAh unit that can provide enough charge for the camera to snap up to 320 photos.
